About the US Census
Every 10 years, the federal government is required to count all residents in the United States. This includes citizens and noncitizens throughout the country. The next national Census takes place starting in mid-March 2020. The information gathered from the Census is used to make sure that government resources are allocated fairly and that everyone is equally represented in our political system.
The County of Fresno’s role in the Census
The County of Fresno has entered into an agreement with the State of California’s Complete Count Census 2020 office to inform, educate and motivate residents in Fresno County to participate and complete the Census questionnaire. On behalf of the County of Fresno, the Department of Social Services (DSS) is designated to administer this agreement and oversee local Census efforts. These efforts include engagement and collaboration with local Complete Count Committees, other County departments, community-based organizations, and local city leaders. Specific focus includes outreach to populations in the county that are considered by the State as least likely to respond to the Census.
