History

Portions of Los Gatos Creek once were stop overs on El Camino Viejo "The Old Road" which connected Pueblo de Los Angeles to the San Francisco Bay Area.  This trail was in use as early at 1780.  Los Gatos Creek also was known as Arroyo Pasajero (Traveler Creek), for its location as a stop, or Arroyo Poso de Chane (Chane Pool Creek), named after the Native American village and people living nearby. These names were replaced in the late 19th Century with Los Gatos Creek.
Los Gatos Creek Park was purchased by Fresno County in 1961.
