Nurse-Family Partnership FAQs

What is the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Program?

The Nurse-Family Partnership is a special program for first time mothers and their child. A Public Health Nurse visits the pregnant woman in her home during her pregnancy and until her child is two years old. Low-income, first-time mothers (under 28 weeks), and living in Fresno County are eligible for the program. Each visit lasts from 1 to 1.5 hours.

What services are provided?

Education on pregnancy, labor and delivery, breastfeeding, infant care, discipline, and growth and development of your baby and toddler. Plus, we provide information on safety, returning to school, jobs and a variety of other topics. The program supports and encourages young women to be the best that they can be, for both their child and themselves.

How does a woman get enrolled in the program?

Women can be referred by their doctors, school nurses, Fresno County outreach workers, public health nurses, or by self-referral.
