The Public Aid Division within the District Attorney's Office is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of crimes involving the various Public Aid Programs within Fresno County. Those programs include Cash Aid (CalWORKs), Food Stamps, Child Care and In-Home Supportive Services.
Public aid crimes are essentially a "theft" of monies by means of "fraud". The victims of public aid crimes are not only the taxpayers, but also the needy children, aged, blind and disabled that are not being taken care of with the monies provided. In addition, the rightfully entitled recipients may not receive crucial services due to a lack of funding.
