If you are experiencing a psychiatric emergency, you need to get help as soon as possible. You should either call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room. If you are not sure that this is an emergency, call 1-800-654-3937. The clinician who is on duty will give you information and help you decide what you should do.
For emergency adult outpatient needs you may come to Metro Services at 4441 E. Kings Canyon. Metro Services is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. When Metro Services is not open, you may also come to the UCWC (Urgent Care Wellness Center) at 4411 E. Kings Canyon. Both Metro Services and the UCWC are near the intersection of Kings Canyon and Cedar.
If you come to the emergency room for mental health care or are taken there by someone else, you will be evaluated by a mental health professional. They will try to determine if you are in danger of hurting yourself or others or if you are not able to take care of your basic necessities (food, clothing, shelter). If this is so, they may place you on what is called a “5150 hold”, which allows the mental health staff to hold you for up to 72 hours.
If you or your family are interested in learning more about the services of the Mental Health Plan, you can get a copy of the Consumer Handbook at any of the Mental Health Plan service sites.
