The Staff Entomologist collects or supervises the collection of insect specimens and prepares and maintains the Department's insect collections. He supervises the large contingent of seasonal trappers that work in the various detection trapping programs. He also provides information and assistance to Department staff, other agencies, and the general public on insect control, taxonomy and present or potential damage caused by insect pests.

The Entomologist corresponds, confers, and maintains liaison with personnel of other governmental agencies, the University of California, state universities, colleges, and the agricultural industry of Fresno County.
