Fresno County announces new COVID-19 testing site at Sanger Community Center

Site is part of a partnership between California and OptumServe

FRESNO, CA., Wednesday, May 6, 2020 – The County of Fresno has joined with the City of Sanger to announce a new COVID-19 testing site located at the Sanger Community Center. The testing site is the second such location launched in Fresno County this week as part of the state’s efforts to add more than 80 community testing sites across the state focused on underserved communities.

Like the first site announced at Fresno City College, the Sanger Community Center site is powered through a partnership with OptumServe, the federal government health services business of Optum, a leading health services innovation company.

“I am happy to see the addition of another testing site in Fresno County,” says Buddy Mendes, Chairman of the Fresno County Board of Supervisors. “Access to more testing will continue to move us forward as we navigate through this pandemic. Very thankful that the state has recognized the need in Fresno County and has taken quick action to increase our testing capacity.”

To determine where to locate new testing sites, the state looked at both rural and urban areas where Californians would have to travel between 30 and 60 minutes to reach an existing testing site or hospital. That information was then evaluated based on underserved populations, to address known disparities, and median income, so residents have access to testing regardless of socioeconomic status.

“This new testing site is a great benefit to the health and safety of Sanger residents and our surrounding communities,” says Sanger Mayor, Frank Gonzalez. “The Sanger Community Center provides easy access to testing and will help our region continue to make great strides in our fight against COVID-19.”

If you fit the testing criteria and are interested in getting a test, it’s important to know that tests are by appointment only. Appointments can be made by calling 1-888-634-1123 or visiting https://lhi.care/covidtesting. Please note that phone registration will only be used for people without internet access.
