Child Welfare Services to move to former Clovis Costco building
Fresno County Board of Supervisors approve lease of former Clovis Costco building to aid Child Welfare Services consolidation
FRESNO, CA., Tuesday, February 25, 2020 – The Fresno County Board of Supervisors has approved a lease agreement for 380 W. Ashlan Ave. in Clovis, which is set to become the new home of the County’s Child Welfare Services division. Upon completion of renovations and tenant improvements, the former Costco facility will provide more than 138,000 square feet of office space, which will be used to relocate nearly 550 Child Welfare staff and consolidate six buildings into a single, central campus.
“This facility is an important piece in our ongoing efforts to enhance department performance and improve the experience of those we serve,” says Delfino Neira, Director of Fresno County’s Department of Social Services. “This location will allow for greater operational efficiency, maximization of resources, streamlined service delivery, and enable the department to provide a higher quality of services to the residents of Fresno County.”
For more than 20 years, the Child Welfare Services division has provided services to the community out of five to seven separate facilities. The lease of the W. Ashlan facility will bring those services to a single location, which will help to improve service delivery and convenience for staff and those in our community who rely on services provided.
The lease of the former Costco is the latest move to consolidate the entirety of the County’s Social Services Department, which began to transition to the neighboring former Pelco campus last year. The department is in the process of transitioning nearly 2,200 staff to the central campus, ultimately consolidating more than 30 facilities throughout the County to streamline service delivery across all divisions of DSS.
