Board of Supervisors to Receive Census Update
Fresno County Board of Supervisors to receive update on County’s Census 2020 outreach efforts
Board to also consider receipt of additional Census outreach funds
FRESNO, CA., Monday, February 24, 2020 – During their regular meeting on Tuesday, February 25, the Fresno County Board of Supervisors will receive an update on the County’s ongoing Census 2020 outreach efforts to raise awareness and encourage participation in the upcoming Census.
The update, provided by the County’s Department of Social Services, will highlight the County’s strategy for Census outreach as it pertains to the region’s “Hard to Count” (HTC) populations. The update will provide a map of outreach focus areas, identify key outreach partners, and discuss the current status of ongoing outreach efforts.
The Board will also consider an amendment to an agreement with California Complete Count – Census 2020 (CCC), which will provide the County with additional funding to conduct enhanced outreach activities in advance of the upcoming Census. The amendment would add an additional $157,350 to the original agreement of $1,088,443, which will help to bolster ongoing HTC outreach efforts of the County and partner community-based organizations.
In accordance with the amendment terms, the additional funding would support the following activities:
Printing of Census collateral materials in languages that support the HTC demographics and local approved outreach strategies
- Providing in-language support at Questionnaire Assistance Centers and other outreach activities focused on motivating HTC communities to complete the census questionnaire.
- Executing census outreach activities where there are currently no activities planned.
- Bolstering existing efforts in HTC census tracks to amplify the campaign’s call to action of completing the Census questionnaire online.
