Fresno County Department of Social Services warns of EBT-related social media rumor/misinformation
FRESNO, CA - The Fresno County Department of Social Services has been made aware of misinformation circulating on social media regarding Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) benefits. The misinformation implies that EBT benefit recipients must use their benefits prior to January 31, 2019 or stores may not accept them.
This is NOT accurate. EBT recipients may use their benefits throughout the month of February and are encouraged to plan their budgets accordingly.
Earlier this month, DSS announced the early issuance of February CalFresh assistance benefits for most recipient’s EBT accounts in order to access federal funds that will not otherwise be available as the federal government’s shutdown continues. DSS continues to await guidance from the federal government regarding the issuance of CalFresh benefits in the month of March.
The Fresno County Department of Social Services wants to ensure children and families have the CalFresh assistance they need for the month of February and urges all recipients to budget accordingly.
Individuals or families can apply for CalFresh benefits and cash aid at their local social service agency, or online at www.mybenefitscalwin.org. CalFresh recipients with questions regarding their case should contact their local welfare department at 1-855-832-8082.
