Fresno County Board of Supervisors adopts Recommended County Budget for Fiscal Year 2018/19

FRESNO, CA – The Fresno County Board of Supervisors voted today to adopt the County’s recommended budget for fiscal year 2018/2019. The budget was presented to the Board by County Administrative Officer, Jean Rousseau, during the annual budget hearing.

The adopted budget totals $3.3 billion across all funds, which marks a 9.4 percent ($283.4 million) increase over the previous year’s budget.

“The budget is a fiscally responsible proposal that reflects our County’s core values, sustains current staffing and service levels, and adds capacity for public services,” says Rousseau. “The County continues to restore fiscal health, prepare for future capital needs and provide improved financial stability.”

Highlights of this year’s County budget include:

  • Supporting a workforce of 7,892 positions (a net increase of 73 over last fiscal year)
  • $13 million dedicated to Capital Projects
    • $1 million for animal control facility
    • $6 million for Hall of Records improvements
    • $6 million for new Sheriff substation
  • $8 million increase in General Reserves
  • SB-1 funding of $17-20 million for County road improvements
  • Addition of 18 positions to Public Defenders Office to address high case load

Additionally, restructuring of the County’s fund balance in accordance with fund balance policies previously adopted by the Board of Supervisors, identified $39 million in FY 17/18 and an additional $20 million this year. These one-time monies are available for the County to address aging infrastructure and add to reserves as identified in the highlights above.

The Fresno County budget for FY 18/19 is balanced, implements conservative revenue estimates, and positions the County to continue expected service levels moving forward.

The Board of Supervisors approved and adopted the recommended budget by a 4-1 vote. The recommended budget is available online on the County’s website HERE.
