Public Defender Attorney Honored for Pro Bono Work
Crystal Johnson, a Public Defender in Fresno, has received the Wiley W. Manuel Pro Bono Award for her volunteer work with Central California Legal Services. The Thank You Reception was held at the Downtown Club in Fresno.
Crystal has also played a huge role in forming community partnerships and initiating the Public Defender's Clean Slate Program, a reentry program that provides free legal services to indigent and low-income persons convicted of offenses in Fresno County and eligible for record clearance. The Clean Slate Program also connects eligible participants to services, which assist with healthcare, employment training, and housing access.
"The Public Defender’s Office is extremely proud of our very own Ms. Crystal Johnson," said Fresno County Public Defender Elizabeth Diaz. "Ms. Johnson’s commitment to justice has helped to change the lives of many individuals in our community by helping them to clean their records and overcome barriers to employment, housing, education, and public benefits."
