Director - Alan Weaver
Alan Weaver was appointed the Director of Public Works and Planning in September 2005. Alan is a home town product, attended local schools and CSUF where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters Degree in Public Administration. Alan holds a Civil Engineering License and a Land Surveyors License issued by the California Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Alan began his engineering career in the late 1970’s with the County of Fresno. During his professional engineering career he has had the opportunity to spend about 6 years with the Sierra National Forest and about 20 years with the City of Clovis before returning to the County. The Department of Public Works and Planning has a very broad area of responsibility including maintenance and operation of all of the County roads (over 3,500 miles/ the biggest county road system in the State), Community Development, maintenance of County parks, operation of the County landfills, administration of the County’s planning and land use services (including building permit administration), operation and maintenance of the County’s 132 special districts which include several community water and sewer systems.
Alan acknowledges that the current financial struggles being experienced by all levels of government and its citizens has added a number of new dimensions and challenges to providing quality services to the citizens and visitors of Fresno County. However he is quick to point out that the County is a great place to live and work and that he is confident the County will overcome the current challenges. Alan is equally quick to state that he considers himself to be very fortunate to work with as talented and dedicated a group of public servants as those with the County of Fresno.
Alan is committed to providing good quality services and encourages anyone that has a question about or concern with services provided by the Department to contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org
