FRESNO, CA – In the wake of recent devastating wildfires in Northern California, staff with the Fresno County Department of Social Services are stepping up to assist those impacted by the disasters.

Since October 17, in response to a request from Sonoma County, Fresno County DSS call center staff have worked to help meet the unprecedented demand for disaster assistance, taking calls from affected residents and helping to connect them with critical services.

“We are heartbroken by these tragedies and are glad to provide any support we can to our neighbors,” said Delfino Neira, Director of the Fresno County Department of Social Services. “This disaster has left local phone lines regularly overwhelmed. Our team is helping to meet the needs, providing those affected with a voice to talk to and a seamless connection to assistance.”

Fresno County is one of five California counties providing remote assistance in this manner, joining with Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Clara and Yolo. Staff will continue to provide such assistance until at least November 3.

In addition to helping remotely, DSS staff are also offering assistance at Fresno offices for residents of the impacted areas who have since relocated to Fresno County.
