Beginning on September 1, 2008, a state law went into effect making it illegal to dispose of sharps waste in trash or recycling containers, and requires that all sharps waste be transported to a collection center in an approved sharps container.
Sharps are any type of device that is used to go under the skin for delivery of medication and for testing of blood for home medicators. Examples of sharps are needles, hypodermic needles, pen needles, intravenous needles, finger stick needles, syringes, and lancets.
