- Paint in old homes built before 1978 may contain lead. Peeling or chipping paint may contaminate soil and/or dust in the surrounding environment.
- Imported pottery and dishes may have lead in the clay, paint and glaze. Children may become lead poisoned when they eat foods cooked, stored, or served in these items.
- Some home remedies and cultural practices may expose children to lead, e.g., Azarcon, Greta, Pajluam, Xyoojfab, Kohl, and Surma. Some of these home remedies come in the form of yellow, orange, pink, blue, white or other colored powders.
- Individuals who work with lead, e.g., painters, home renovators, radiator or car battery workers, shooting range workers, may take lead home on their clothes, hair and shoes and expose others to lead poisoning.
- Hobbies that involve working with stained glass, fishing weights, paint or glazes may expose individuals to lead.
