Measles

measlesIZ.PNGnew.gif Measles is a highly contagious disease and is easily contracted by breathing in air which has been shared by a person infected with measles.

Symptoms of measles are:

  • Fever (often high); cough; runny nose; red eyes; and rash   (usually starting on the face and spreading down the body)
  • Measles rash starts at the hairline, spreads across the face and spreads over the chest and abdomen and clears first from where it started. (Rash looks like red pinpoint-size bumps.)

People with measles are most contagious four days before to four days after the rash appears. People who are exposed to measles who are not immune would begin to show symptoms 7-21 days later.
