Who is Public Authority?
The Public Authority was created to help the Recipients of In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) find quality, trained Care Providers so they can remain in their home safely and independently. The Public Authority is the Providers' employer for the purpose of negotiating wages, benefits, and working conditions with the local union. (The true employer is ALWAYS the IHSS Recipient).
What is the Provider Registry?
The Provider Registry maintains a database of Care Providers that have been screened and trained by the Public Authority. The Provider Registry helps IHSS Recipients find home Care Providers as well as helping Providers find work. When an IHSS Recipient asks for help to find a Provider, the Public Authority matches Providers in the Registry to the Recipient's needs. The Recipient then interviews, hires and trains a Provider. (The Recipient may also terminate a Provider at his/her will, for the Recipient is the employer)
The Public Authority will call the Recipient between three and five days after receiving the list to ensure the Recipient has hired a Provider that meets their needs.
