May 24, 2016 Mental Health Matters Day - Capital Visit

Fresno County joined in celebrating the mental health movement on May 24 in Sacramento on the West Steps of the Capitol Building. Mental Health America of California (MHAC) hosted a day of awareness, action and change to better the lives of people with mental health challenges. The event featured speakers such as Scott Budnick, Founder and President of the Anti-Recidivism Coalition and executive producer of “The Hangover” movie series, Paul Gilmartin, former TV host (TBS’ Dinner and a Movie), stand-up comedian (Comedy Central Presents) and host of the Mental Illness Happy Hour, and Katie Williams, mental health advocate and person with lived experience.

 May 21, 2016 NAMI Walk - Woodward Park

 

Runners and walkers met for the annual NAMI Walk at Woodward Park in North Fresno.  Individuals reported the event was a blast with many friendships renewed and over $3500 raised for the NAMI program.

May 20, 2016 Directing Change State Awards - Glendale, CA

The Directing Change State Awards took place in Glendale, CA and honored students throughout California for their videos that dealt with Suicide Prevention, Ending the Stigma surrounding Mental Illness, and a new category called Through the Lens of Culture.  Students from Clovis East High School placed second in the Through the Lens of Culture category and were treated like Hollywood stars complete with a limo ride, red carpet walk, and photographers asking for their photos.

May 18, 2016 Behavioral Health Board - Proclamation

 The Behavioral Health Board made a Proclamation announcing the May as Mental Health Matters Month.  Along with the Proclamation local Fresno County students were honored for their video submissions to the Directing Change video contest.  The students won second place in both Mental Health Matters, and Through the Lens of Culture categories.

May 13, 2016 Each Mind Matters Picnic - Roeding Park

Continuing with Mental Health Matters Month Fresno County celebrated the Each Mind Matters Picnic at Roeding Park.  Participants were treated to games and music, a zumba demonstration, inspirational stories of overcoming mental illness as well as performances from talented individuals.  There were close to 400 people who attended the event.

 May 5, 2016 The Art in My Recovery - Art Hop

Kicking off May is Mental Health Matters Month was The Art in My Recovery - Art Hop held at the Fresno Arts Council in downtown Fresno.  Many of the artists were present for the opening of the Art Hop which featured many different art mediums. The artwork was displayed for the entire month of May.

  • Youth Psychiatric Health Facility (This request was approved) - The County of Fresno Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) has drafted a Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Capital Facilities Project Proposal to utilize funds to renovate and modernize an area within the University Medical Center (UMC) Campus that is currently housing a non-inpatient level of service.  This space will be occupied by a Youth Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF).  We will keep the community posted as to any new updates to the renovation process.   

      

    Updates: Work is currently being done, Kristi Williams is working with parents to identify bathroom tile colors!  Stay tuned for more information!

  •  Revised MHSA FY 2012-13 Annual Update: The MHSA Revised FY 2012-13 Annual Update Plan has been prepared.  The revised annual update includes all changes from the Mental Health Board meeting on January 16, 2013.  The revised annual update will be presented to the County Board of Supervisors for final  approval on February 26, 2013.  Attached below are the Following Documents:

The questions and public comments received as well as the Department’s response are posted below. 

    One of the questions asked was the justification for the programs added/expanded. The MHSA Annual Update is a stakeholder driven process and plans added/expanded reflected the feedback received from the stakeholders.

  • MHSA FY 2012-13 Annual Update Public Comment Period - We are pleased to post the MHSA FY 2012-13 Annual Update.  An Executive Summary, budget sheets and program outcome measurements are also posted. The Executive summary provides information and data on existing approved MHSA programs, new proposals, as well as expansions of existing programs. 

The MHSA 2012-13 Annual Update public comment period is from November 19 - December 19, 2012.

The MHSA annual update is a State required process to continue funding MHSA components and programs. The annual update is an opportunity for the  community to make changes to existing programs, add programs, or delete programs. In addition this annual update provides program data, outcomes, funding, and other detail for all existing and new proposed programs.

Public Comment forms are also posted. The Executive Summary shall be translated into Spanish and Hmong. Questions as well as assistance in Spanish and Hmong will be provided by Department staff via the following:
