COME AND JOIN US

THE JAMES ROWLAND CRIME VICTIM ASSISTANCE CENTER
would like to invite you to join us in the front of the Fresno County Courthouse on April, 10:30am – 1:30 pm during Crime Victims’ Rights Week at the Community Outreach Fair, where service agencies and victim support groups will provide information to the community about their activities and services to crime victims.  In addition to table displays, Assembly Member Juan Arambula will be joining us to talk about Victim Compensation.

Crime Victims’ Rights Week is held annually nationwide since legislated by Congress in 1981, this is time when the nation comes together as one to recognize and support the rights of crime victims.

THIS YEAR Victims’ Rights Week is celebrating the 26th anniversary of the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), landmark legislation passed by Congress in 1984 establishing the Crime Victims Fund to support crime victims throughout the United States.  The law provides that fines from offenders – not from taxes – would supply the financial resources to support crime victim compensation and victim assistance programs.  Today the rights of victims are just as important as they were 26 years ago as demonstrated November 2008 when Proposition 9/Marsy’s Law was passed, placing Victim’s Rights in the California State Constitution.
